Factors leading to adrenal fatigue include but are not limited to the following: 

Lack of relaxation, devitalized food, unfulfilling employment or dead-end jobs, dead-end relationships, surgery, junk food, trans fats, rancid fats, financial stress, sedentary lifestyle, excessive exercise, death of a loved one, alcoholism, toxins, poor eating habits, marital stress, repeated traumas, workaholism, nutritional deficiencies, hormone imbalances, oral contraceptives, stimulants, counterproductive attitudes and beliefs, conventional hormone replacement therapy, nonprescription drugs, psychological stress, persistent fears, emotional stress, lack of sleep, being in denial about feelings, infection - acute and chronic, repeated stress, persistent negative stressors, fun or enjoyment deprivation, allergies, caffeine, prescription drugs, white flour and white sugar products, antacids, smoking.  Obviously from this list, we as a society are very susceptible to experiencing adrenal fatigue.
